Gorilla Trekking Center Wins Architizer Vision Award / by Rick Schneider

Our team’s own Bwindi Eco-Visitor Center has been recognized with an Architizer Vision Award!

This gorilla trekking center is designed to be a gateway to the park as well as a bridge between the local community and the thousands who visit each year.

Located in the heavily forested mountains of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a place rich in culture and biodiversity. Visitors from across the planet travel to this UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite because it is home to half the world’s remaining population of endangered mountain gorillas.

The ISTUDIO x US Forest Service team began the community outreach process with many interviews, workshops, and meetings with stakeholders - villagers, schools, and local business owners. The project was funded by USAID and coordinated by the USDA Forest Service , Solimar International , and the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
